Solo

I have been giving solo concerts for many decades. At festivals, in clubs, at vernissages, etc...

The approach has changed again and again over time and is still in constant mutation.
For example, there were mainly unamplified, acoustic solo performances with the trombone, but also with the tuba, but also solo performances that have included additional sound enhancements with computers and/or effect devices.
For each performance, I adapt the concept to the respective context in terms of content, space and time.
So it always remains spontaneous and exciting for me and the audience.

Duo Laia Genc / Daniel Casimir

The virtuoso Cologne jazz pianist Laia Genc and Daniel Casimir met in 2008 and immediately started working together as part of Laia's band “Liaison Tonique 5”. Laia's CD “Polyfangastronosia” was also released during this time, with Alban Darche on saxophone, Sébastien Boisseau on double bass and Nils Tegen on drums in addition to Genc and Casimir.
Since 2023, the two have also been playing as a duo with a program of Daniel Casimir's own compositions, mainly written for this formation.

Laia Genc
Laia Genc lives and works in Cologne and studied jazz piano there and for a year abroad in Paris. Among the numerous prizes she has won at home and abroad, either alone or with her “LiaisonTonique”, is the Cologne Jazz Prize 2007.
Always in search of her very own and unmistakable sound, Laia Genc follows her very personal musical path.
With her music, she is often a border crosser at the interface between jazz and contemporary music. Open to the rich influences of globalizing life, she also draws from various cultural areas, not least through the most diverse collaborations.
At the heart of her work is the project “LiaisonTonique”, which released its debut album “Trilogien” with “JazzHausMusik” in 2005 and has been giving concerts worldwide ever since. As a sensitive sound painter, composer and arranger, she gives many projects a special color in a captivating mixture of jazz, free improvisation and a lot of musical charm.

Tuba On The Beat sounds like the latest cocktail “à la mode”!

That's not entirely wrong in a figurative sense, because this ensemble is also about surprising ingredients:

In addition to the double share of tuba in the persons of Daniel Casimir, initiator and musical director of the project, and Gerhard Gschlößl, there is a share of vibraphone at the completely different end of the sound spectrum, virtuously operated by Julius Apriadi, and “last but not least” The Beat, added on the cajon by master percussionist Laura Robles!
For such a cocktail to be really addictive, however, care must also be taken to ensure that it not only looks good, but above all tastes good, or in this case sounds good, and is digestible. To this end, there is a clear concept here of reducing the sugar content and favoring ingredients with depth by giving the four soloists space and offering a rather chamber-music-like composition of refined rhythms as well as harmonic and melodic developments to both surprise and satisfy the ear.

Laura Robles
was born in Eswatini in 1981, but grew up in Lima, Peru. From an early age, she showed an innate musical talent, which she has refined and perfected over the years, especially on the cajón, in the field of percussion, on the electric bass, but also as a composer.
In addition to her career as an artist, Laura Robles has also been active in music education and research into traditional rhythms. She has developed a modern way of playing the cajón, moving away from tradition and exploring new sounds and techniques.
In 2012, Laura moved to Germany where she continued to develop her musical career. She is the founder of innovative music projects such as Astrocombo and Antigroove and a member of renowned bands such as Agua Dulce, Tripas, Perfektomat, Kim-Robles-Duo and Camina.
Laura Robles is a versatile artist who has succeeded in combining tradition and innovation in her music. Her passion for percussion, her creativity and her commitment as a music teacher make her a leading personality in today's creative music scene.

Julius Apriadi
born 1987 in Neubrandenburg (as Julius Heise), was a junior student at the HfM Hanns Eisler Berlin at the age of 12 and studied various styles of music from classical and new music to jazz, rock and pop. He then studied jazz vibraphone at the Jazz Institute Berlin with David Friedman.
Since then he has been active as a freelancer in the Berlin and international jazz scene, with regular excursions into theater music (compositions for Konzerthaus Berlin and Berliner Ensemble) and classical percussion (with Alexej Gerassimez since 2005) and jazz mallet ensembles (Berliner Vibraphoniker with Hauke Renken, Berlin Mallet Group with David Friedman and Taiko Saito). Since 2014, he has also repeatedly led his own projects with which various CDs have been produced. Since 2018 Julius has been a lecturer for jazz vibraphone at the Jazz Institute Berlin, and also since 2018 an engineer and consultant for railroad maintenance and digitization.

Gerhard Gschlößl
Born in Mainburg in 1967, trombonist and tuba player, studied trombone and composition in Würzburg. As a soloist and innovator of the Berlin avant-garde and improvisation scenes, he plays with many small and large ensembles and is constantly developing a solo program for trombone and tuba. “The trombonist has developed his personal style in a very agile, muscular way and close to the respective base. Nothing here is cosmetically polished or ambitiously overdone. His music is credible because it comes across with rough edges, because it does not hide the dirt that is part of life. You can hear the where from and sense the where to.” (Ulrich Steinmetzger) Collaborations with Michael Mantler, Albert Mangelsdorff, Aki Takase, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Karl Berger, Marschall Allen, Silke Eberhard, El Gayo Rojo, Sam Rivers, and many others.

Trio Casimir / Eberhard / Gschlößl

A freely improvising trio in which everything is possible, from noises to tonality, no restrictions. Silke Eberhard on saxophone and various Korean instruments, surrounded by Daniel Casimir and Gerhard Gschlößl, both on tuba (Instrument of the Year 2024) and trombone.

The French press wrote about the CD Bootleg : “Surprises can be very fruitful... The dialogue between the musicians is cheerful and beautifully complex, especially in “Trio 2”, in which Eberhard plays in the simplest form, on the threshold of silence, on the tight mesh of the trombones. A beautiful concert to take away.”

Silke Eberhard
Born in 1972 in Heidenheim an der Brenz. From 1995-2000 she studied jazz saxophone and clarinet at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. In addition to her own trio with Jan Roder and Kay Lübke, many other projects, including the duo OCA with Aki Takase and Potsa Lotsa. Performances and recordings with Ulrich Gumpert, David Liebman, Dave Burrell, Gerry Hemingway, Alex Huber and many others. 2004/05 guest professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Bogotá/Colombia. Performances at numerous festivals, including the Berlin Jazzfest, the Willisau Jazz Festival, Moldejazz and in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in the Middle East, North Africa, the USA, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Japan and China. 2007 Awarded the 10^th Jazzpott as Best Progressive Artist, 2009 Jazz Scholarship from the Berlin Senate for her project Potsa Lotsa. In 2011 she was awarded the Nürnberger Nachrichten International Jazz Prize and in 2012 Artist in Residence at the Stadtmühle in Willisau, Switzerland. She was awarded the Jazzpreis Berlin, 2020 and Deutscher Jazzpreis, 2023 for Potsa Lotsa XL “large ensemble of the year”.

Composition

I have been interested in composing since my early youth.

My first big band piece was recorded and broadcast by NDR (Nord Deutscher Rundfunk) in Hanover when I was still at school. Over time, I had the opportunity to write music for very different contexts and line-ups. From virtuoso classical soloists, string quartets, jazz ensembles and big bands, rock bands, to film music and an 80-person orchestra, there was a lot going on. Much of it was also recorded and published in various ways. I had private or state commissions to compose some works.

I am excited to see where this journey will take me and look forward to commissions and collaborations.

I also play other brass instruments in a less virtuoso way: euphonium, alto horn (tenor horn Eb), flugelhorn, cornet and trumpet.

This can be of additional interest, especially for recordings.

Tuba

The long collaboration with one of the best tubists in the world, François Thuillier, made me want to learn the instrument!

After carefully weighing up the pros and cons, I decided on the E flat tuning and play a very rare 5/4 E flat tuba by Rudolf Meinl.

If desired or necessary, I also play B flat tuba.

Trombone

Trombones can be built very differently even in the same tuning.
For example, in Bb there are both tenor trombones in various designs and bass trombones, again in a wide variety of versions.

My idea was to develop a type of tenor trombone in Eb that would better meet the needs and wishes of a jazz trombonist than the generally common narrow-bore jazz trombones in Bb. With the help of the brilliant trombone maker Josef Gopp, I managed to do this.

The result is the Casimir-Alto, which has been my absolute favorite trombone ever since!

The development of the trombone was supported by the "Mécénat Groupe BALAS" foundation fund. Therefore I would like to express my gratitude once again!

I also occasionally play my large-bore Bb tenor trombone by Pierre Hulot, which I helped develop, and a medium-bore Bb tenor trombone by Olds, the Recording R20. The latter was considered a bass trombone when it was built!
